Cougars falter against Park

Parkville, Mo. – The Columbia Cougar basketball team recorded an American Midwest Conference (AMC) loss tonight, falling to Park (Ill.) University, 72-44.
With tonight’s loss the Cougars drop to 9-16 on the season, and 3-6 in AMC play. No. 24 ranked Park improves to 16-7 on the season and 9-1 against league opponents.
The Pirates shot 39 percent from the field to led the Cougars 37-15 at the break. Park improved their shooting in the second half to 48 percent, converting on 12 of 25 shots including six from behind the arc. The Cougars just barely outrebounded the Pirates 35-33, but the 26 Columbia turnovers contributed to 32 Park points, leading to the 28 point victory by the Pirates.
Aleksander Eric led the Cougars with 14 points. Josh Davis and Taylor Evans each chipped in nine points.
Kyle Raush was the leading scorer for the Pirates with 13, including five for seven from the free-throw line.
The Cougars return to the hardwood on Thursday, Feb. 11 when they travel to Lebanon, Ill. to face McKendree (Ill.) University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
