Cougars get revenge on Williams Baptist, drop the Eagles 75-51

Columbia, Mo. – On Jan. 7 in Walnut Ridge, Ark. the Williams Baptist Eagles gave Columbia their first loss in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play by defeating them 59-52. Tonight, the Cougars revenged that league loss in the Arena of Southwell Complex, defeating the Eagles 75-51.
The Cougars move to 9-15 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The Eagles fall to 10-13 on the season and are also 3-5 vs. AMC opponents.
In the first half, Columbia shot 68 percent from the field and surged ahead in the final seven minutes to lead 43-33 at halftime. In the second half, the Cougars continued to add to their lead, pushing the game out of reach for Williams Baptist, who managed to shoot just 23 percent from the field in the second frame.
Greg Stegeman paced Columbia’s effort with a career high 18 points. The junior forward hit eight of his nine field goal attempts and pulled down a game high 12 rebounds, three blocks and four steals. Aleksander Eric posted 15 points and four assists. Taylor Evans finished with 12 points and Josh Davis and Quintin Totta each chipped in 10 points.
One Eagle scored in double figures. Wes Livingston had with 17 points.
The Cougars shot 66 percent from the field for the game. Columbia also outrebounded the Eagles 39-21.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, Feb. 4th when they travel to Park (Mo.) University in Parkville, Mo. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. The Pirates defeated the Cougars 94-68 in the first meeting between the two teams on Jan. 9.
