Cougars falter in AMC match-up St. Louis, Mo. - The Columbia Cougar basketball team suffered an American Midwest Conference (AMC) loss of the tonight, falling to Hornets of Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University 55-47. Columbia drops to 7-15 overall and 1-5 in league action. The Hornets are 3-3 in AMC play and 11-10 overall.

After being ahead 12-4 early in the contest, the Cougars went cold from the floor and were plagued by turnovers, which allowed the Hornets to tie the contest up and go on to take the lead for good. The Cougars were unable to catch a break on the offensive end and trailed 29-20 at the break.

Columbia pulled within one in the second frame, but could not hang on and regain the lead, falling to the Hornets.

Columbia shot 41 percent from the field in the game, while the Hornets notched a 33 percent performance. The Cougars were outrebounded by Harris-Stowe 42-33.

Quintin Totta recorded 17 points for the Cougars. Aleksander Eric posted 10 points and Greg Stegeman led Columbia on the boards, pulling down 13 rebounds.

The Cougars return to the hardwood on Saturday, January 30th when they host William Woods (Mo.) University in another AMC match-up. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. in the Arena of Southwell Complex.
