Cougars drop a close one to Missouri Baptist

Columbia, Mo. – The Cougars just couldn’t hold on tonight against Missouri Baptist University, as they dropped the American Midwest Conference (AMC) contest by a score of 78-71. Columbia falls to 7-14 on the season and 1-4 in AMC match-ups. The Spartans move to 9-9 overall and are 1-2 against league opponents.
The Cougars and the Spartans tied up the score for a brief moment in the first half, but the rest of the time the first frame was controlled by the Cougars. Columbia had a 36-31 advantage at the break on 47 percent shooting.
Columbia pushed their lead to 10 in the opening minutes of the second half, but was quickly shut down by the Spartans when the visitors went on a 22-6 run and led by five with just under six minutes to play. Columbia couldn’t catch a break down the stretch, pulling within two, but forced to foul and unable to connect on anything in the final minute.
Taylor Evans led three Columbia scorers in double figures with 16 points. Quintin Totta added 13 and nine rebounds and Aleksander Eric posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Missouri Baptist was led by Kyle Hubbard who finished with 22 points.
The Cougars are idle until next Thursday, January 28th when they travel to St. Louis, Mo. to take on AMC foe Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. against the Hornets.
