And the streak continues, Lady Cougars make it 18 in a row

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia Lady Cougars had no trouble posting their 18th straight victory tonight, defeating American Midwest Conference (AMC) foe Missouri Baptist University. Columbia, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, trounced the Spartans 103-82 to improve to 18-1 on the season and an undefeated 6-0 in conference play. Missouri Baptist falls to 10-6 overall and 2-2 versus league foes.
Once the Lady Cougars got rolling in the first half with a 15-1 run, they were nearly unstoppable. Posting a 20-point lead at one point and holding a 56-39 advantage at the break, Columbia shot a blistering 71 percent in the first frame. The Lady Cougars also dominated on the boards, notching 23 compared to Missouri Baptists’ 11.
Although the Spartans pressed the Lady Cougars the entire contest, Columbia wasted no time getting the ball down the floor and extended their lead to 27 before walking away with the 21-point victory.
The Lady Cougars shot 53 percent in the second half to make it a 62 percent shooting performance for the game.
Five Columbia players scored in double figures tonight, led by Rachel Oswald who finished with 25 points, 19 of which came in the first half, and 10 rebounds. Kirsti Wilkerson netted 20 points while Whitney Widaman has 17 points. Denise Rosario and Kandace Cross chipped in 11 and 10, respectively. Veronica Smith’s 13 rebounds led all players.
Ashley Johnson led the Spartans with 23 points.
The Lady Cougars return to the hardwood on Monday, January 25th when they travel Peru, Neb. to take on Peru State (Neb.) University in non-conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and will be audio webcast live at www.columbiacougars.com.
