Lady Cougars win 16th straight, Drop Stephens 90-56 to remain undefeated in conference

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia Lady Cougar basketball team remained undefeated in American Midwest Conference (AMC) regular season action today, downing Stephens (Mo.) College 90-56. The Lady Cougars, who are ranked No. 8 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, are 16-1 overall and 4-0 in AMC action. The loss drops Stephens College to 7-7 overall and 0-3 against conference foes.
The Lady Cougars held the Stars to a woeful 30 percent shooting performance for the game. Columbia committed 17 turnovers, but used balanced scoring and strong play from Janita Session, Rachel Oswald and Kirsti Wilkerson to come away with the 34-point victory.
Columbia led Stephens 35-21 at halftime after starting the game with an 17-3 run. After extending their lead minutes into the second half, the Lady Cougars maintained at least a 20-point advantage the rest of the contest.
Session led Columbia with 16 points and six steals. Wilkerson and Oswald chipped in 12 a piece.
Today’s win is Columbia’s 16th straight, dating back to Nov. 9th when the Lady Cougars defeated Avila (Mo.) University 77-61.
Columbia returns to action on Tuesday, January 19th. The Lady Cougars travel to Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) College in Hannibal, Mo. for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
