Pirates defeat Cougars Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia Cougar basketball squad suffered another loss tonight, falling to the Pirates of Park (Mo.) University 94-68 in an American Midwest Conference (AMC) showdown. The Cougars slip to 6-12 overall and 0-2 in AMC play with tonight’s defeat. Park improves to 8-6 on the season and 1-0 in league play.

Park held Columbia to just 12 field goals in the first half, while draining 17, including five from beyond the arc, on their end. The Pirates led the Cougars 46-34 at the break.

The Pirates scorched the nets in the second half, shooting 71 percent from the field and 67 percent from beyond the three-point arc. Columbia committed 21 turnovers in the contest which converted into 29 Park points.

Jaron Strickland led Columbia’s effort with 15 points and six rebounds. Kaleb Turner added 13 points, while Josh Davis posted 11 points and six rebounds. Herschel Rodgers was the top scorer for Park with 21 points.

Columbia returns to AMC action on Thursday, January 14th when they host rival McKendree (Ill.) University. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. in the Arena of Southwell Complex.
