Lady Cougars dominate McPherson, Oswald named AMC Player of the Week McPherson, Kan. – The Lady Cougars added victory number 12 to their record tonight after dominating McPherson (Kan.) College. Columbia, ranked No. 9 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, defeated the Bulldogs 74-44 tonight. The Lady Cougars improve to 12-1 on the season with their 12th straight win, while NAIA Div. II member McPherson falls to 4-8 on the season.

Columbia’s 52 percent shooting from the field in the first frame led to a 45-23 advantage heading into the break. Kirsti Wilkerson’s 16 points in the first 20 minutes helped the Lady Cougars dominate the half.

The Bulldogs could not contain the Lady Cougars in the second half, as they ran away with the contest, extending their lead to as many as 34 points.

Wilkerson ended with a game high 19 points including five three-pointers. Denise Rosario chipped in 13 points and 14 rebounds. Whitney Widaman had 12 points and seven assists and Rachel Oswald ended with 10 points. Whitney Davis dished out seven assists.

For her efforts last week, Columbia’s Rachel Oswald was named this week’s American Midwest Conference Player of the Week. Oswald led the Lady Cougars to two victories at the Cougars vs. Cancer Classic. She averaged 17 points and 7 rebounds per game in the two contests. Against Missouri Valley College, Oswald posted a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Rachel was named Most Valuable Player at the Classic for her performances.

Columbia returns to the court on Thursday, January 7th when the open up AMC play in Walnut Ridge, Ark. The Lady Cougars face Williams Baptist College at 5:30 p.m.
