Sioux City, Iowa – The Columbia College Cougar volleyball team saw their 2009 season come to an end today at the NAIA Volleyball National Tournament. The Cougars fell to Georgetown (Ky.) College by scores of 25-19, 27-25 and 25-19 today to drop to 1-2 in pool play and fall out of the national playoff. In 16 consecutive trips to the national tournament the Cougars finish the tournament tied for 13th, lower than ever before. Columbia finishes 2009 with a 38-4 record.
Just like the two days previous, Columbia just never found their stride, playing catch-up the majority of the time and gaining just minor leads throughout the contest. As a team the Cougars hit .278 compared to the Tigers from Georgetown who combined for 47 kills and a .362 hitting percentage.
Senior Maria Omondi was the lone Cougar in double figures notching 10 kills in 22 attempts. Fellow senior Cate Eckhardt finished her season with seven kills and 12 digs. Tally Mattos had 12 digs while Freshman Paula Ferreira dishes out 32 assists.
Alexandra Bertke and Erica Janszen each had 14 kills to lead the Tigers.
