Seven Cougars garner All-Conference honors,
Columbia advances to Regional Tournament

Columbia, Mo. - Following yesterday's American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championship game between Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) College and McKendree (Ill.) College members of the 2007 All-Conference and Academic All-Conference Teams were announced.  McKendree defeated Hannibal 11-1 in five innings to earn the tournament crown. 

Members of the Academic All-Conference Team include; Stephanie Kababie, Lindsey Williams, Jena Strobel, Lindsey Hume, Rachel Brawner, Katie McMahon and Chris Schoonover.  

Seven Cougars were recognized through the All-Conference Teams.  Cougars receiving first team honors were Stephanie Stowe, Katie McMahon, Rachel Brawner and Chris Schoonover.  Stephanie Kababie, Meghan Bailey and Lindsey Williams received Honorable Mention accolades.

For her efforts throughout the 2007 regular season, McMahon was named the league’s Pitcher of the Year. Katie, a junior from Edina, Mo., posted a 12-8 record with an earned-run average of 1.4 during the regular season. In AMC play, she had six wins, 55 strikeouts and a 0.59 ERA. McMahon fanned 113 batters in 122 innings pitched while allowing just 31 walks.

The Cougars advance to the NAIA Region V tournament on May 8-10 in Springfield, Mo. Columbia will be the No. 3 seed in the eight-team playoff.  On Tuesday, May 8 the Cougars will take on Missouri Valley College at 2 p.m.

Cougars struggle offensively, fall from AMC tournament

Springfield, Ill. - The Cougars fell to McKendree (Ill.) College 1-0 and Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) College 11-3 today in the second day of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Postseason Tournament.  Columbia moves to 24-16 on the season and is eliminated from the tournament. 

In the first game against McKendree, Columbia and the Bearcats both struggled offensively.  The lone run of the game came in the fourth inning when McKendree cacher Angie Maue hit a solo homerun.  The Cougars threatened in the sixth and seventh innings, but were unable to tie the score giving the Bearcats the one-run victory. 

Katie McMahon (13-8) took the loss, giving up just five hits and zero walks, while striking out four. 

With the loss to McKendree, Columbia dropped into the losers bracket to face Hannibal-LaGrange.  The loss in the first game really took it's toll on Columbia, as they came out flat and gave up six runs in the first inning and three in the second. 

The Cougars had just six hits throughout the game and scored their only runs in the first and second innings.

Hannibal scored one more run in the fourth and one in the seventh to push their lead to eight.  Columbia, unable to answer the eight-run deficit, ended their tournament run. 

Meghan Bailey (10-6) got the loss on the mound for the Cougars.  Marcie McMahon (1-1) relieved Bailey in the first and struck out four Trojans throughout the game. 

Despite today's losses, Columbia may have a chance to play in the Regional tournament that will be held in Springfield, Mo. on May 8-10.  Visit www.columbiacougars.com for tournament information as the bracket will be released Monday, May 1.

Cougars win two in AMC Tourney

Springfield, Ill. - After a rain delay, the American Midwest Conference (AMC) postseason softball tournament finally got underway today in Springfield, Ill.  The third seeded Columbia Cougar softball team defeated the No. 6 seed, Missouri Baptist University 10-2 (6) and the No. 2 seed, William Woods University, 7-0.   With the wins, the Cougars move to 24-14 on the season and advance to the semifinal round of the double elimination league playoff where they will face top-seeded McKendree (Ill.) College. That contest is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Against Missouri Baptist, Columbia struggled to get going offensively.  In the first four innings the Cougars posted just three hits on the board and one run to tie the Spartans up after they scored a run in the top of the third.  In the bottom of the fifth, Chris Schoonover led off with single that started a three-run rally.  The Cougars continued the rally in the bottom of the sixth when they scored six runs off of four hits and three walks to run-rule Missouri Baptist.  The Spartans were held to just six hits the entire game, due to an outstanding pitching performance from freshman Meghan Bailey.   Bailey (10-5) posted five strikeouts and gave up just two walks in the victory. 

Schoonover had two hits in three at bats, including a triple.  Chris also scored three runs and picked up a stolen base.  Stephanie Stowe, Katie McMahon and Rachel Brawner posted two hits a piece.    

In the second game of the day against William Woods, the Cougars came out strong as Lindsey Williams led off the game with a double to right field.  Columbia was able to score their first run of the game in the second inning when Marcie McMahon led off with a walk, was sacrificed to second and was plated by a Jena Strobel double.  In the bottom of the fourth, the Cougars scored three runs off of four consecutive hits.  Columbia added to their lead in the sixth, scoring three more runs off of three hits to give the Cougars the 7-0 victory. 

Williams collected three hits, one run scored and four RBIs.  Strobel and Amanda Hodges knocked two hits a piece. 

Junior hurler Katie McMahon (13-7) got the win on the mound.  McMahon gave up only four hits and two walks, while striking out seven. 

Should Columbia prevail over McKendree, the Cougars will compete in the championship game of the league tournament on Sunday, April 29 at noon.

Burchard signs eight players for 2007-08 season

Columbia, Mo. – Columbia College men's basketball head coach Bob Burchard officially announced today his 2007-08 recruiting class which consists of six junior college transfers and two high school seniors. 

"I am very pleased with this outstanding recruiting class," said Burchard. "We’ve done an outstanding job in identifying, recruiting, and making these young men feel comfortable within our basketball family."

A trio from Penn Valley Community College, in Kansas City Mo., has signed on to play for the Cougars next season including Joe Flanner, Logan Sullivan and Michael Aquirre.  Flanner, a 6’1” guard from Lee’s Summit, Mo., averaged 12 points, three rebounds and seven assists a game as a sophomore.  Sullivan, a 6’8” wing from Lee’s Summit, Mo., averaged eight points and two rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field as a freshman.  Aquirre, a 6’7” forward from Kansas City, Mo., averaged five points and five rebounds per game as a sophomore.    

Rock Bridge High School standout guard Terrell Turner will return to Columbia to play next season for the Cougars.  Turner, a 6’0” guard, has spent the last two seasons playing at Fort Scott Community College under former University of Missouri guard John Burns.  Turner averaged 12 points and two assists per game as a sophomore.

Brett Hoskins is a 6’3” guard and played last season in Paducah, Ky. at West Kentucky Community and Technical College.  Hoskins averaged 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists leading the Stars to an 18-7 overall record.  He shot 91 percent from the free throw line, 40 percent from behind the arc and 51 percent from the field as a sophomore. 

Christian Lewis, a 6’6” forward from McCook Community College in North Platte, Neb., averaged five points and three rebounds a game as a sophomore.

Two high school seniors, Greg Stegeman and Jake Alexander, will also be joining the Cougars next season.  Stegeman, a 6’6’ post player from Fatima High School in Westphalia, Mo., averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds per game as a senior, and is the all-time leading rebounder in school history.  Alexander, a 6’5” forward from Herculaneum High School in Herculaneum, Mo., averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds during his senior campaign.

The Cougars finished the 2006-07 with an overall record of 16-16 and advanced to the conference semifinals.

Columbia College athletic department hosts
Eugene Field Elementary School for annual field day

Columbia, Mo. - For the seventh consecutive year, the Columbia College athletic department held an all-sports field day for the students of Eugene Field Elementary School, Columbia College’s Partner in Education, today on the Columbia College campus. Cougar coaching staff members and student-athletes led approximately 250 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade through basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball and intramural sessions from 9:00 a.m. – noon.

Students were divided into their respective classes and spend approximately 30 minutes working with Columbia College student-athletes and coaches in each sport or activity. Students were taught fundamentals and basic skills as well the importance of sportsmanship and academics. 

“We enjoy being a part of this event,” stated Columbia College Director of Athletics Bob Burchard. “Seeing our student-athletes interact with the students from Field Elementary is really special because they get a chance to pass on something about the sport they love. And the Field students seem to have a great time each year learning about all the sports we offer. It’s really a fun morning.”

Cougars score two victories on Senior Day


Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar Softball team swept the Stars from Stephens (Mo.) College today in a non-conference doubleheader.  Columbia defeated Stephens 8-0 in five innings and 9-0 in five innings in their final outing of the regular season.  Columbia improves to 22-14 with today's victories.

Katie McMahon (12-7) picked up the win in the first game, fanning eight Star batters. She gave up one hit and two walks. The Cougars scored a run in the second inning and seven in the fourth. Rachel Brawner, Katie McMahon and Amanda Hodges notched two hits a piece.

In the second game, Meghan Bailey (9-5) notched the shutout. She also gave up one hit and two walks, while totaling four strikeouts. Columbia scored five runs in the first, two in the second, a run in the third and one in the fourth to end the game in five innings. Eight different Cougars had one or more hit in the game, including Chris Schoonover, Rachel Brawner, Marcie McMahon and Jena Strobel who each posted two hits. 

The Cougars enter postseason play this week when they travel to Springfield, Ill. to compete in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) tournament.  The tournament starts on Thursday, April 26 and continues on thru Saturday, April 28.  Game times and opponents have not yet been released.

Cougar softball wins one, finishes Capital City Classic 2-2
Spratt hits 500 wins in career


Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Columbia Cougar softball team tallied a split in the second day of the Oklahoma City Classic today, dropping Northwest Oklahoma State University 4-3 and then falling to No. 5 ranked St. Gregory's (Okla.) University 3-1. Today's games move Columbia to 20-14 on the season. 

In the first contest against Northwest Oklahoma, Katie McMahon (11-7) picked up the win fanning one batter and giving up six hits, one earned run and one walk.

Columbia jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Lindsey Williams hit a lead-off solo homerun.  Columbia scored again in the sixth inning, but fell behind 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh.  However, the Cougars were able to fight back and score two runs to take the one-run victory. 

Williams and Stephanie Kababie led Columbia offensively, knocking two hits a piece.  Columbia collected a total of 10 hits in the game.

In the second contest vs. St. Gregory's, Meghan Bailey (8-5) picked up the loss for the Cougars.  Bailey allowed three hits and four walks while notching one strikeout in 2.2 innings of work.  Marcie McMahon (1-1) relieved Bailey in the third after she was hit by a line drive.  McMahon gave up seven hits and one run. 

This time St. Gregory’s jumped out to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning and extended their lead with one more run in the third.  Columbia was able to score a run of their own in the fifth inning when Jena Strobel was hit by a pitch, scarified to second by Amanda Hodges, moved to third on a passed ball and was plated by a Lindsey Williams sacrifice fly.  The Cougars lone run was not enough, as St. Gregory’s scored one more run in the sixth to take the 3-1 win. 

Rachel Brawner posted Columbia's only hit of the seven inning game.

With the win today over Northwest Oklahoma, Cougar head coach Wendy Spratt has hit 500 victories in her career.  In 13 years at Columbia, Spratt holds a record of 500-213, which is more wins than any coach in Cougar softball history. 

Columbia returns to action on Monday, April 23 when they host Stephens (Mo.) College for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.  Prior to Monday’s game seniors Amanda Hodges, Stephanie Kababie, Marcie McMahon, Chris Schoonover and Stephanie Stowe will be recognized as they play their final home game as Cougars.

Cougars split in first day of tournament

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Cougar softball team earned a split in the first day of the Oklahoma City University tournament today.  Columbia defeated the Russian National Team 7-5 and fell to NAIA No. 25 ranked Rogers State (Okla.) University 3-0 in the nightcap.  Today's game against the Russian National Team was just an exhibition game and does not count towards Columbia's record.  The Cougars move to 19-13 on the season after today's games.  

Against Rogers State, Katie McMahon (10-8) took the loss on the mound.  McMahon gave up eight hits and one walk, while fanning five batters.  The Cougars struggled offensively, managing just three hits.  Chris Schoonover recorded two hits, while Amanda Hodges posted one hit. 

The Cougars continue play at the Oklahoma City University Tournament tomorrow when they take on Northwest Oklahoma State University at 10 a.m. and St. Gregory's (Okla.) University at noon.

Cougar Athletics holds end of year Celebration of Excellence

Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar Athletic Department held their annual Celebration of Excellence last night to honor the accomplishments of Columbia College’s student-athletes in their respective sports as well as in the classroom and the community.

Men’s basketball guard Ryan Steinhoff was the recipient of the Virginia and Stanley Williams Senior Athlete Award for having the highest GPA among all senior student-athletes.

Senior softball outfielder Chris Schoonover and the Athletic Training Student Organization were the winners of the NAIA Champions of Character Award for successfully embodying the five core values of respect, integrity, servant leadership, sportsmanship and responsibility.

Senior basketball player Marcus Bradford received the Male Athlete of the Year Award.  Bradford averaged 16 points and 5 rebounds per game this past season.  He scored over 20 points in nine games and recorded two games of 30 plus points as well as two double-doubles.  For his efforts Bradford earned First Team All-Conference recognition.

Sophomore volleyball player Yi Zhang received the Female Athlete of the Year Award.  Zhang has only been at Columbia College for one season but her presence was felt immediately. She led the Cougar Volleyball team to a 43-7 overall record, a No. 5 final national ranking and a trip to the National Championship quarterfinal match.  Zhang was named First-Team All-Conference and the Conference Newcomer of the Year, as well as First Team All-Region V and was an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American.

The Sunrise Optimist Club was the recipient of the Athletic Director’s Award for their continued support of the Cougar Athletic Department.  The Optimist Club operates the concessions and ticket operations at all Cougar Athletic events.

Cougars fall in final AMC contests


Lebanon, Ill. - The Columbia Cougar softball team played their final American Midwest Conference (AMC) regular season games today, taking on McKendree (Ill.) College.  The Bearcats defeated the Cougars 2-0 in game one and 8-7 (10) in game two.  Columbia falls to 19-12 on the season and 11-3 in conference play.  McKendree improves to 32-8 and 13-1 in league play. 

In the first game of the double header, Columbia struggled in the first inning.  McKendree was able to score two runs off of two hits and two walks in the bottom of the first.  The Cougars had at least one batter reach base in five of the next six innings, but were unable to score, giving the Bearcats the 2-0 victory.  

Katie McMahon (10-6) took her first conference loss of the season on the mound.  In six innings of work, McMahon gave up six hits and four walks, while fanning eight McKendree batters. 

McKendree took momentum into the second game, scoring two in the second, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.  The Cougars rallied in the sixth when they scored five runs of their own to tie it up.  Both teams were unable to score in the seventh, moving the game into extra innings. 

In the top of the tenth, with international tiebreaker rules in play, McKendree scored three runs off of three Cougar errors.  Columbia again rallied in the bottom of the tenth, but fell short as they were only able to score two, leaving McKendree with the sweep.

Meghan Bailey (8-4) started on the mound, giving up 10 hits and two walks. Bailey fanned three batters.  Marcie McMahon (1-1) relieved Bailey in the top of the fifth, and Katie McMahon (10-7) relieved her sister in the seventh to finish out the game and take the loss.  

For her efforts last week, Katie McMahon is this week’s AMC and Region V Pitcher of the Week.  McMahon helped the Cougars to a 2-0 week with victories over the University of Illinois-Springfield.  Katie got the game one victory, giving up zero runs and just three hits, while striking out 11.  This is the second week in a row that McMahon has received these honors. 

Columbia returns to action this weekend in the Oklahoma City University tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla.  The Cougars will take on Kansas Wesleyan University at noon and Roger's State (Okla.) University at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 20.  Saturday's game times and opponents will be determined by Friday's results.

Softball Cougars continue AMC schedule with sweep of UIS
Two Cougars earn Region honors

Springfield, Ill. – The Columbia Cougar softball team notched two wins today in American Midwest Conference (AMC) action, defeating the University of Illinois-Springfield 4-0 and 9-0 (5) in a league doubleheader. The wins move Columbia to 19-10 on the season and 11-1 against league foes. 

Versus the Prairie Stars in game one, the Cougars scored one run in the fourth inning and three in the fifth.  Katie McMahon (10-5)was the winning pitcher for the Cougars. In seven innings, she gave up four hits and a walk, while striking out 11 opposing batters. Columbia totaled seven hits in the game, including two from senior Amanda Hodges. 

The Cougars continued to rattle the bats in the second game, totaling two runs in the first inning, one in the second, four in the third and two in the fourth for the 9-0 shutout.  Lindsey Williams, Chris Schoonover, Stephanie Stowe, Rachel Brawner, Marcie McMahon and Stephanie Kababie each knocked two hits apiece in the five inning victory. 

Meghan Bailey (8-4) got the win, fanning four batters and giving up three walks in four innings of work.

For their efforts last week, Katie McMahon and Stephanie Stowe were named AMC and Region V Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.   Stowe was red hot at the plate last week, recording a batting average of .632, belting 12 hits in 19 trips to the plate.  Stowe totaled nine RBIs, five doubles, one homerun and two stolen bases in Columbia’s six games last week. 

McMahon pitched 17 innings last week, striking out 21 batters and only walking four.  Katie allowed just one earned run in her three outings last week, recording a 0.41 ERA.  Against Harris-Stowe State University, Katie struck out eight and did not allow a single hit or walk.

The Cougars return to action on Thursday, April 12 when they travel to Canton, Mo. for a doubleheader vs. Culver-Stockton College. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 3 p.m.

Girl Scouts brave the cold to participate in Cougar Softball Clinic

Columbia, Mo. - Despite the bitter cold on Wednesday, April 4, the Columbia College Cougar Softball team hosted a softball clinic for the local Girl Scouts.  Even with the poor weather conditions both groups made the best of the situation and had a great time working on their softball skills. 

After double header victories over Missouri Baptist the Cougars welcomed over 30 Girl Scouts onto the field to teach them basic softball fundamentals.  The Cougars helped the Girl Scouts on their throwing, batting and fielding among many other aspects of the game. 

"This was a great experience for us as well as the Girl Scouts because it gave them something to look forward to for the future, playing softball, and it brought us closer to the community," said senior Amanda Hodges.  

“It is at clinics like this you realize as a college athlete how much impact you really do have on the younger generations that look up to you.  There is always someone out there wanting to grow up and be a college athlete.  It is a great feeling to know that we, as college athletes, can have such a big impact on what the next generation of athletes chooses to do and how they carry themselves through a game or on the playing field.”

Cougars split with William Woods, move to 9-1 in AMC action

Fulton, Mo. – The Columbia Cougar softball team tallied a split in today’s American Midwest Conference (AMC) doubleheader vs. William Woods University (Mo.), defeating the Owls 4-3 in the first game and falling 12-11 in the second. Today’s action moves Columbia’s overall record to 17-10 and pushes its league mark to 9-1.   William Woods is 20-10 overall following today’s split, and 3-3 in AMC action.

The Owls jumped out to an early lead in the first game, scoring all three of their runs in the first inning. The Cougars posted their first run in the second frame when Jena Strobel singled to score Katie McMahon, who reached base on a walk.  In the top of the fifth Stephanie Kababie and Strobel each reached base on errors.  Amanda Hodges brought Kababie home with a single to right field.  Stephanie Stowe's base hit two batters later scored Strobel and Hodges, which gave the Cougars the 4-3 victory. 

Katie McMahon (9-5) logged the win in the first game, giving up one earned run and four walks. She posted six strikeouts.  Christa Hummer took the loss for the Owls.

In the second game, the two teams traded offensive punches throughout the game. William Woods scored two runs in the top of the first.  Columbia came back to score one in the bottom of the second.  The Owls broke the game open in the top of the third when they scored five runs off of five hits and two errors. Columbia again came back to score two more in the fifth, but the Owls again ran ahead scoring one more in the top of the sixth.  In the bottom of the sixth the Cougars took their first lead of the game when they scored eight runs off of five hits and one error.

Columbia led 11-9 going into the top of the seventh, but like the Cougars in the first game, William Woods put together a rally, scoring three runs. Columbia was unable to score Lindsey Williams and Stephanie Stowe who reached base on a single and an intentional walk in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Owls the 12-11 win and giving the Cougars their first AMC loss of the season.

Meghan Bailey (7-4) started on the mound for the Cougars, giving up seven runs while striking out two.  Marcie McMahon (1-1) took the loss, relieving Bailey in the third, fanning one batter and giving up one walk. 

The Cougars continue AMC play on Tuesday, April 10 when they travel to Springfield, Ill. to take on the University of Illinois-Springfield.  The doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m.

Cougars shutout Spartans,
Stowe named AMC and Region V Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia Cougar softball team continued American Midwest Conference (AMC) regular season action today with two victories against the Spartans from Missouri Baptist University.  Columbia (16-9, 8-0) defeated the Spartans 8-0 (6) and 8-3.   The Spartans fall to 7-19 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

In the first game of today’s doubleheader, Katie McMahon (8-5) was the winning pitcher for the Cougars.  She gave up no runs while allowing only four hits, striking out seven and walking zero of the 21 batters that she faced.

Rachel Brawner lead the offensive effort for the Cougars in the first game going three-for-three from the plate with a double, one run scored and two RBIs.   Lindsey Williams went two-for-three with two runs scored, one stolen base and one double.   Chris Schoonover also was two-for-three with two runs scored, one stolen base and one double.

Meghan Bailey (7-4) recorded the win for Columbia in the second game giving up two earned runs on four hits, while fanning eight and walking four.

In the second game, Stowe was three-for-four with two doubles, one homerun, two runs scored and two RBIs.  Brawner went two-for-three with two doubles.  Schoonover also added three RBIs.

In today’s two games the Cougars totaled 16 runs on 21 hits.

Stowe, the Cougars' senior catcher, was named the AMC and Region V Player of the Week for the week of April 2 - April 9. Stowe, who originally hails from Manitoba, Canada, hit .692 going 9-for-13 in helping her team to a 4-0 record last week. Stowe also drove in six runs and scored four times while putting together a slugging percentage of 1.000.

On Friday, April 6 Columbia is on the road as they travel to Fulton, Mo. to take on AMC rival William Woods (Mo.) University.  Start time for the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.

Lady Cougar Basketball signs Hancock High School senior forward

Columbia, Mo. -- Columbia College women’s basketball coach Mike Davis officially announced today that the Lady Cougar basketball program has signed Tammy Thomas, a senior forward at Hancock High School, in St. Louis, Mo., to a national letter of intent to play basketball for the Lady Cougars next season.

“We are very excited to have Tammy join our program,“ said Davis.  “She is a very physical player and Columbia College will be a good fit for her style of play.”

Thomas, a 6’0” forward, accumulated 1,130 points and 823 rebounds while leading the Lady Tigers to an overall record 86-18 the past four seasons.  Thomas was named Second Team All-State for Class 3 as a senior averaging 18.5 points and 11.2 rebounds.  She was also a two-time All-Metro selection and a two-time unanimous MVP of her conference.

“She has been a force in the St. Louis area over the past four years,” said Davis. “Her scoring speaks for itself but her rebounding may be her best attribute.”

Cougar softball program signs Valerie Teter

Columbia, Mo. - Columbia College softball coach Wendy Spratt officially announced today that she has signed Valerie Teter to a national letter of intent to play softball for the Cougars beginning next season.

Valerie is a native of Bevier, Mo. and joins the 2008 Columbia team as a freshman utility player.  During her stint at Bevier, she earned all-state, all-region and all-conference honors numerous times, including being named conference MVP each year.  In 2005 Teter led her team to a Class I State Championship where she broke two state records. 

Teter will finish her high school career with an four-year overall batting average of .492.  In her last two seasons, Valerie has hit 26 homeruns, 19 doubles, scored 89 runs and posted 77 RBIs.  As a pitcher at Bevier, Teter has a combined record of 82-13 and has totaled 1,083 strikeouts in four years. 

“Valerie possesses the skills to excel at Columbia College both athletically and academically,” stated Spratt. “She is intelligent, well-rounded and can play many positions on the field.   I am pleased she chose Columbia to continue her journey.”

Cougar Softball stays undefeated in Conference play

St. Louis, Mo. – The Columbia Cougar softball team recorded it’s fifth and sixth victories in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play taking both games of today’s doubleheader against Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University, 10-0 (5) and 14-0 (5).  The Cougars improve to 14-9 on the season, and 6-0 in AMC play.

In the first game the Cougars scored ten runs on 14 hits in five innings of action.  Katie McMahon (7-5) was the winning pitcher for Columbia throwing a no-hitter.  She recorded ten strikeouts.

Again It took the Cougars just five innings to secure their second victory of the day.  Columbia scored seven runs in the first inning, three in the second and four in the third to run-rule the Hornets 14-0.  Meghan Bailey (6-4) got the win and started the second game on the mound for the Cougars, giving up three hits, walking two and striking out four in her three innings of work.  Marcie McMahon (1-0) relieved Bailey in the fourth to finish out the game. 

Rachel Brawner led the way for the Cougars during the doubleheader, with six hits in seven at-bats.  Brawner scored four runs and hit a triple.  Stephanie Stowe recorded five hits, including two doubles, three RBI's and two runs scored.  Lindsey Williams, Katie McMahon and Stephanie Kababie all had three hits a piece.  Williams also added a homerun in the first game. 

The Cougars return to the field on Tuesday, April 3 when they host AMC foe Missouri Baptist University. The first pitch of this doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.
