Columbia wins big at Freed-Hardeman

Box Score Henderson, Tenn. - The Columbia women's soccer team posted an 8-0 road win over American Midwest Conference (AMC) opponent Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University on Tuesday night. The Cougars improve to 8-2-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play with the shutout victory, their seventh of the season.

Columbia netted three goals in the first ten minutes of play, including two by junior MacKenzie Knepper in the seventh and ninth minutes. Knepper added her third goal of the period in the 12th minute and the Cougars would take a 4-0 lead into the halftime break. The second half featured another dominant effort by Columbia as Kelly Ross notched her first two goals of the year and the Cougars cruised to the shutout win.

Erica Ramirez had two saves to earn the win in goal for Columbia. Knepper's three scores marks her second hat trick of the 2013 season.

On Monday, senior midfielder Stephanie Hale was announced as this week's winner of the AMC Offensive Player of the Week. Hale scored five goals and also had five assists in the Cougars' three games last week, which included conference wins over Stephens (Mo.) College and Williams Baptist (Ark.) College. For the year, she leads the AMC in scoring with 11 goals and 13 assists.

Columbia will resume play next Tuesday, October 8th when they host AMC foe William Woods (Mo.) University. The Cougars and Owls will kick off at 4:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Soccer Stadium.
