Jon Barfknecht

barfknechtWith more than a decade of experience at Columbia College, Jon Barfknecht, the Certified Athletic Trainer, often spends more time with players than the coaches do. Barfknecht enjoys working at Columbia College because he gets to work with a diverse population of athletes from different parts of the world.

Barfknecht is not only the coordinator of the Athletic Healthcare Services at Columbia College, but he also teaches three classes. His objective is to facilitate an academic program for Student Athletic Training.  

Barfknecht has been working at Columbia College since 1995. Prior to this he was the Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Tennessee Technology University where he received his Masters in Health and Physical Education. Previous to this, Barfknecht went to University of Iowa for his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with an emphasis in athletic training. Before actually studying to treat athletes, Barfknecht tried his hand at a little football, baseball, basketball and wrestling while attending West High School in Iowa City, Iowa, where he was raised.

Since his arrival at Columbia College, Barfknecht has received the service award from Missouri Athletic Trainer’s Association for ten years as an athletic trainer in Missouri. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Mid-America Athletic Trainers Association and the Missouri Athletic Trainers Association.

Barfknecht resides in Columbia with his wife Lisa and their two children, Sarah, nine, and Tyler, six.
