Intramural Indoor Soccer Rules

  1. Number of Players:  The maximum number of players on the field is 4.  Co-Rec teams must begin
with 2 female and 2 male players.  Ejected players will not be replaced with a substitute.

  1. Equipment:  A player shall not wear anything that may be dangerous to another player.
Non-cleated, soft-soled shoes are to be worn.

  1. Field of Play:  Games will be played in the Turf Room.  The ball may be played off the walls.
The ball is out of play when:
    1. A goal is scored by the ball completely crossing the goal line.
    2. The ball hits the ceiling or a light fixture.
    3. The ball gets behind the backstop or gets tangled in the batting cage nets.
    4. The referee stops the game for any reason.

  1. Duration of the Game:  The game shall consist of two twenty minute halves with a four minute
halftime.  Timeouts are only called in case of an injury to players or temporary loss of the ball.

  1. Free Kicks:  Free kicks are classified as either “direct “ or “indirect”.  From a direct kick, a goal is
attempted from the opposite goal box with no goalie allowed.  From an indirect kick, a goal cannot
be scored unless a player other than the kicker has played the ball before it passes over the goal line.

When an indirect kick is being taken, no player of the opposing side may be

within 5 yards of the ball until it is touched, unless he/she is standing on their

own goal line, between the goal posts.

  1. Fouls and Misconducts:  Divided into two categories, those resulting in an indirect free kick, and
those resulting in a direct free kick.

An indirect free kick is awarded against a player who commits any of the following offenses:

    1. Playing in a manner considered by the referees to be dangerous.
    2. Charging with the shoulder and not trying to play the ball.
    3. Intentionally obstructing an opponent when not within playing distance of the ball.
    4. Unsportsmanlike conduct (insulting opponent or referee).
    5. Attempting to slide tackle.

            f.    At the point of a fifth touch in a row by a male player.

A direct free kick is awarded against a player who intentionally commits any of the following
offenses:

            a.   Kicks or attempts to kick an opponent.

            b.   Trips an opponent.

            c.   Charges in a violent or dangerous manner.

            d.    Holds an opponent with his/her hands or arms.

            e.  Pushes an opponent.

            f.   A hand ball offense.

  1. Substitutions:  There are free substitutions but a player can only enter the field when the player
he/she is replacing is completely off the field.  The incoming player shall stand against the wall in
    their teams “sub corner”.

  1. Consecutive Touches: Men can only touch the ball consecutively four times in a row.  Any other
player must then touch the ball before the initial (male) player can touch the ball again.
